3 Signs You Need To Hire A Professional To Repair Or Install A New Boiler

If you have an older boiler, it will eventually start having problems. When it does, you need to hire a professional to repair the boiler for you instead of trying to do things on your own. In some cases, the contractor will suggest you install a new boiler. To help, below are three signs that it is time to call in a boiler contractor to come to your home to take care of your boiler.

1. No Heat or No Hot Water

If there is no heat in your home or no hot water, this could be due to the boiler having low water levels, problems with the thermostat, broken airlocks and diaphragms, or a problem with the motorized valves. If any of these things are broken, they will have to be replaced. In some cases, the boiler contractor can repair parts depending on what is wrong with them.

Another problem that can cause no heat or hot water is the boiler pressure. This pressure should always be about the same. If you check it and see that the pressure is too low, this is your problem. A contractor can adjust the pressure for you.

2. Problems With the Pilot Light Going Out

If the boiler pilot light keeps going out, do not immediately relight it. Instead, check the gas supply to ensure the boiler has enough gas. If not, contact your gas supplier to fill up your boiler. If the gas is not the problem, relight the pilot light and see if it stays on. If it does, then a draft likely blew out the light.

If the light does go off after relighting it, you can try cleaning the pilot light. If there is buildup on it, the light will not stay on. If you continue having a problem, the thermocouple is likely broken and will have to be replaced.

3. Hear Banging Noises

If you hear banging noises coming from your boiler, this could be due to having air in the system. If there is the case, you will also hear a whistling or gurgling sound. A professional can remove the air from the system to quiet the boiler down.

Another thing that can cause your boiler to make banging noises is the pipes are not fitted correctly. If this is true, the pipes will bang against each other as heated water or air flows through them. In a case like this, a plumber needs to refit the pipes properly.

If the contractor finds the boiler is beyond repair, they can do a new boiler installation for you. The contractor can go over the information on installing a new boiler with you so that you will understand the process.
